Broadband & Hotspot Troubleshooting

Solving Broadband Issues

Basic Broadband Troubleshooting

  1. Check for Dial Tone - Pick up your landline phone if your broadband connection is linked to this number and check that your phone has a dial tone and is working fine.
  2. Check the Cables/Wiring - Examine and ensure that all required wires including Ethernet, DSL and Power Cord are properly secured, plugged in correctly to a power support(wall socket) and jackpoint. Observe the lights on the router to determine if there is any connectivity. Then, check your internet connection on your device.
  3. Restarting Router - This is simply Powering Off and On the modem.

Modem Light Indication

  1. LAN (Local Area Network) Light - A green/blue blinking light is normal, this indicates traffic or usage on the local network
  2. INET (Internet) Light - This is a green/blue blinking light which indicates your connection to the internet
  3. ADSL/DSL (Phone Line) Light - A solid green/blue light indicates a good internet connection where a blinking green/blue light indicates a line problem
  4. WIFI (Wireless) Light - A solid green/blue light indicates a WiFi connection, this enables you to connect wireless through your device
  5. Power Light - A solid green/blue light indicates a working modem, whereas any other power light color could either mean the modem is faulty or damaged

What To Do When...?

  1. DSL Light is Flashing - Check if the DSL cable is plugged into the correct port on the modem before reporting a Fault on 120
  2. INET Light doesn't appear - Check that the DSL light is stable, if it is, reboot the modem and check again. Once it's stable, connection should be fine.  If INET light is red, account may have been suspended or modem has gone into default. Please call us on 123 to confirm your 'red light' issue
  3. WIFI/Wireless Light doesn't appear - Check that the WiFi button is enabled - to do this, please check for the 'WiFi' or 'Wireless' button on the modem and click it once.
  4. Power Light is Red - Bring the modem in for testing. This may be replaced, however Terms and Conditions apply

Solving Hotspot Issues

Expected Lights on the modem

  1. Power Light - A solid green light for a working modem
  2. ASDL/DSL Light - A solid green light for a good connection to the internet
  3. INET Light - Should not be displayed (There should not be a light appearing for a modem configured as a Hotspot)

What To Do When...?

  1. DSL Light is Flashing - Check if the DSL cable is plugged into the correct port on the modem before reporting a Fault on 120
  2. INET Light appears and is flashing - When your modem is configured for Hotspot, there should be no light. If there is, it can mean that your modem is configured for regular broadband or your modem has lost it's settings & reset to default. To reconfigure your modem, see Set Up Kasda Modem for guidance
  3. The Vodafone Login Page doesn't appear - Refresh your browser (Google Chrome, Internet or Safari). Enter the URL address: wifi.vodafone.co.ck - and the login page will appear
  4. My WIFI name (eg: ppi21XXX or Vodafone_WiFi) is not displayed - Check that the WiFi button is enabled - to do this, please check for the 'WiFi' or 'Wireless' button on the modem and click it once.
  5. 'Limited Internet Connection' Error Displayed - This means the DSL (Line Rate) may be poor due to weather conditions or other technical problems either with the service or your device
